Our Pastor

Rev. Dana P. Owens

A native of Dayton, Ohio, Reverend Dana P. Owens accepted his call to ministry in March of 1994. In June of 2004 he became the 12th pastor of the historic Messiah Baptist Church in East Orange, New Jersey. During his time at Messiah, the church has witnessed significant growth in membership, ministry and service to the community. The rich history of Messiah along with its urban setting provides the unique opportunity for Rev. Owens to lead the congregation in transformational ministry for those in the pew and the community.

Rev. Owens has taught at New Brunswick Theological Seminary and has led numerous workshops and seminars. His passion and commitment to the gospel has afforded him the opportunity to preach in various pulpits across the country.

His board relationships include: Board Chair, United Healthcare Initiative Program; Former President of the East Orange Clergy Association; Messiah Baptist Church Federal Credit Union; East Orange Parking Authority.

Rev. Owens holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications and African American Studies from Wright State University in Dayton; a Master of Divinity Degree from New York Theological Seminary, where he was also awarded the Keith A. Russell Student Preacher Award; and he is currently an Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Fellow in the Doctor of Ministry program at New York Theological Seminary.

Rev. Owens is married to the former Shalonda Michelle Bayless.
